We here at Odd Object would like to introduce you to our first game: Scrubbin’ Trubble!
Scrubbin’ Trubble is a traditional, turn-based roguelike where you and your buddies play as miniature Cleaning Agents tasked with cleaning up The House. As you traverse the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and other spaces in The House, you’ll take on roaches, slimes, dust bunnies, and all kinds of other Nasties, tidying up as you go! You’ll be able to play with up to 3 friends as you level up and eventually face down the Four Filths of the Apocalypse.
You… “and your buddies”?!
Yup, that’s right! A basic characteristic of classic roguelikes is that they’re completely turn-based: When you move, the world moves. Everything is synchronized in lock-step. This is straightforward for single-player games, but with ST we’re trying something unique to allow multiple players to engage in the same play space simultaneously without forcing a global turn lock or limiting turns with a timer to keep the action.
A shorter dev cycle
Scrubbin’ Trubble’s lead designer, Tyriq, has most recently come up for breath from a series of games with particularly long development times; he worked on UFO 50 for six years, and Catacomb Kids is now over a decade old (and still underway!). When we started Scrubbin’ Trubble, we knew we wanted to keep it smaller in scope than those games, so it’s a simpler and shorter game than we’re used to making, but with no less quality or passion put into it.
In game development, spending less time on a project can be harder than spending an indeterminate amount of time. But this commitment is a much needed change of pace for us, and we expect it to be more sustainable in the long run. We’re stoked to be able to create and share more games more quickly.
Excited to share more details soon — see you in the filth! Now go and wishlist that shit on Steam!
